Hail Insurance for Homes in Colorado

Hey, homeowners and those longing to own a home. Nothing chaps my buns more than homeowners getting screwed by their insurance providers on hail damage insurance claims. We’ve officially entered hail season in Colorado, and it’s not a matter of if, but a matter of when you’ll need to make a hail claim. Sadly, you are not invincible to frozen golf balls pouring out of the sky. Here are three things your insurance provider didn’t mention about your policy.

Know Your Insurance Deductible

Here’s the deal. A lot of these insurance companies are putting out 2% or 3% of value deductibles, and that sounds like a low number, huh? But, the reality is, those numbers could mean you’re having to pay as much as $10,000 or even $20,000 towards the cost of your roof before your insurance even chips in.

ACV or RCV Policy

Alright, next up, you need to know if you have an ACV or RCV policy. Legally, I can’t tell you which one you should have. Claim a Hail Event

This last one is simple, but a lot of people miss their opportunity to claim a hail event. Most companies only allow you a fixed amount of time to claim that damage. Most policies allow you to make a claim within 1 year of the hailstorm. The good ones…two years or longer. If you miss that window and don’t make your claim in time, insurance companies will laugh. And, you will cry.
