Where to Leaf Peep in Colorado Springs 2026?
One of the greatest fall activities in Colorado is taking a good ol’ drive to marvel at the changing Aspen trees. You can get way out there into the mountains or stay close to Colorado Springs and still enjoy all of the colors. And, here’s the deal, leaf peeping season is HERE. RIGHT NOW. All that rain we didn’t get means these trees are turnin’ yellow fast. But, there’s still time, and you’ll get the whole low down on leaf peeping spots in Colorado to make planning your trip out to see those trees a little bit easier.
Dates of Leaves Changing in Colorado
The timing of the leaves changing typically ranges from mid to end of September through mid October. Below, you’ll find a week by week snapshot of what’s expected to happen across various areas of trees within Colorado.
September 20th - 27th: Higher elevation areas begin seeing color changes.
During this week, you’ll start to see some color changes in areas sitting at higher elevation. This isn’t peak peeping quite yet, but you’ll definitely still see some leaves changing.
September 27th - October 4th: Peak leaf peeping week!
This is THE WEEK to be planning your leaf peeping adventures. Specifically Woodland Park, Divide, Cripple Creek, and Victor should be at their peak for all the cool colors.
October 4th - October 11th: Colorado Springs starts seeing some color changes.
During this week, we’ll start seeing some color coming down into Colorado Springs.
Places to See the Leaves Change in Colorado
Some real great spots to see the leaves change ranging from close to the Springs to far out West.
Gold Camp Road to Victor and Cripple Creek
This drive gets you not just beautiful mountain views but you also get to drive through the historic mining towns of Victor and Cripple Creek. Highly recommend checking out the around 2 mile loop Vindicator Valley Trail in Victor.
Leaf Peeping in Crested Butte
If you want to really get out there, Crested Butte is absolutely stunning this time of year. Washington Gulch and Kebler Pass both offer great leaf peeping views.
Mueller State Park
Choosing Mueller State Park gets you Divide Aspen groves, meadows and Pikes Peak views. Truly mind-blowing views.
Pikes Peak Highway
Head on up to gain some serious elevation and watch the trees change along the way.
